Sup, fam

Julian Schaevitz is a self-taught artist, best known for his signature cartoon style, applied across mediums. Julian describes his aesthetic as, "surrealist cartoons". Julian creates dreamlike worlds that explore identity, belonging, companionship and possibility.

Who, what, when, where, WHY

In an era increasingly defined by technology, optimization, productivity and conformity, Schaevitz's work turns toward imagination, deep time, and the natural world. Drawing inspiration from canyons, mountains, fossils, dinosaurs, oysters, folklore, and the night sky, he builds mythic landscapes for viewers to step into and experience wonder.

At the heart of his work is a belief that individuality is something to be celebrated rather than hidden. Through wandering characters, strange creatures, and impossible worlds, his artwork explores what it means to follow one's own path, embrace difference and remain authentic in a culture that often rewards sameness.

His ongoing series, Life on Mars, follows a solitary traveler and a wild red dog through surreal environments that reflect both personal experience and a search for home, meaning, freedom and connection. The series is an invitation to curiosity and self-authorship.

Julian's greatest artistic inspirations are Frida Kahlo, Marc Chagall, MC Escher, Hieronymus Bosch, Keith Haring, and Dr. Seuss.
